To raise awareness among students about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Image Processing, the Indian Society of Geomatics (ISG) - Visnagar Chapter, in collaboration with Sankalchand Patel University, Visnagar, organized a one-day workshop on "Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing in Agriculture, Healthcare, and Infrastructure" on February 8, 2025.
Artificial Intelligence plays a crucial role in agriculture by utilizing image processing on large datasets for better insights, in healthcare through early disease detection via medical imaging, and in infrastructure development by enabling precise predictions for smart city projects.
Key Speakers and Sessions:
Dr. Shashikant Sharma, Senior Scientist, SAC, ISRO, Ahmedabad, attended the event as an expert in AI and Image Processing in agriculture. He presented his research on crop-related datasets and predictions, which are beneficial for farmers and government authorities.
Mr. Santosh Gaikwad from Nascent Info, Ahmedabad, delivered a lecture on case studies related to infrastructure projects.
Dr. Chintan Bhatt, Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, PDEU, Gandhinagar, spoke about AI applications in healthcare, providing real-world examples.
To demonstrate AI and Image Processing applications, three parallel hands-on sessions were conducted in agriculture, healthcare, and infrastructure. Additionally, retired ISRO scientist Mr. Patnaik addressed the students.
Dr. Shashikant Patel, Scientist at Punjab Remote Sensing Center, Ludhiana, shared insights on AI applications in agriculture and other sectors through an online session.
Mr. Prakash Patel, President of Sankalchand Patel University, expressed his commitment to fostering student growth in emerging technologies like AI and Image Processing. He also appreciated the efforts of ISG - Visnagar Chapter and the university in successfully organizing the workshop.
Dr. P.M. Udani, Honorable Provost and Chairman of ISG, Visnagar Chapter, encouraged students to explore AI and Image Processing. He announced the launch of a Minor Degree Program in Civil Engineering (Geo-Spatial Technology) with 20 credits at Sankalchand Patel University.
Dr. H.N. Shah, Director - Technical Courses, Sankalchand Patel University, and Dr. P.J. Patel, Principal, Sankalchand Patel College of Engineering, were also present.
The workshop witnessed active participation from over 150 students and faculty members from various institutions across North Gujarat. Dr. Y.S. Patel (Principal, Swami Sachchidanand Polytechnic College), Dr. Manish M. Patel (Professor, IT Department), Dr. Malay Bhatt (Professor, Computer Science), and members of the organizing committee ensured the smooth execution of the event.
