Faculty of dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Narsinhbhai Patel Dental College and Hospital, Sankalchand Patel University Visnagar had organised expert session on “Current concepts in diagnosis and management of oral cancer” on 22.07.2022. Expert session was delivered by India’s leading Head and Neck cancer Surgeon and chief editor of journal of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Amit Dhawan. He highlighted on the recent advances in the diagnosis of oral cancer disease. He also said that in India Gujarat is no one state where cancer cases are seen the most, so we need lot of cancer surgeons. The Sankalchand Patel University can train surgeon to become expert in management of oral cancers. In this session discussion many leading oral and maxillofacial surgeons doing exclusive cancer surgery in Gujarat took part and gave their opinion regarding the advanced treatment modality. More than 140 participants across the state attended and benefited with session. Dean of Narsinhbhai Patel Dental College and Hospital, Dr. Vilas Patel said that this kind of discussions will increase success rate in treating oral cancer without any cosmetic defects. She wished good for the team of cancer surgeons treating patients by advanced use of various tissues and microvascular flaps for reconstructions. Dr.Anil Managuttti organizing committee head and members thanked President of SPU Shree.Prakash Patel sir, Provost Dr.D J Shah sir for their untiring efforts in providing necessary infrastructure to operate the cancer cases in Nootan General Hospital Visnagar. There is separate operation theatre is allotted to deal with oral surgery cases by hospital. The organizing secretary and treasure Dr.Shailesh Menat and Dr. Nirav Patel told that they will regularly organize these kind of events in future.
